A Poet’s Last Stand
My muses are dead
The day does sigh
My family has departed
The night is high
I stare at the oceans beyond me
Beholding the expanses of time
I stare at the seas behind me
Raging with sublime
I know my life will expire
Before the starlight reaches me
Before the tides arrive
I know my memories
Will be washed away
Washed away in the sand
I know infinity is everywhere
I know what I am
I know infinity cannot see me
Nothing but a man
I know what is coming
So I admire the sun
As it hands off its light
I know what is coming
So I hear the moon sing
Under the moonlit night
The waters splash for me
Space extends her hand
My muses speak in their silence
Darkness is bright
I fall in love again
Weariness my might
Let it be eternal
Waves of existence
Eroding my fright
Let it be eternal
These gestures of pen
Weaving their final fight
I see the universe
Shudder at my infinity within
I see the stars
Supplicate to these pages herein
I know I am them
I know I am their child
Reading these words
Close-eyed, with a smile
This is my world
This is my sea
This is my sky
This is my land
This is my death
This is my last stand
This is my last stand
