Holding
We sleep holding each other
Between those states of oblivion and wakefulness
We let go
We each board our own boat and wield our own oars
We drift in the seas of our respective dreams
We think we see each other
Far away a speck on the moonlit horizon of celestial seas
In the water the reflections we see are of each other
Splintered into glinting beauty by fish we didn’t know we had the capacity to imagine
The storms come but we stay aloft and we welcome the rain
The stars are there to guide our nautical maneuvers
We think of each other braving these oceans, that appear only in the depths of slumber
A teardrop in a watery mindscape churning with the waves of memories, hopes, aspirations
Then we drift
A gentle light lit by the shepherding dark current of silent journey
We smile next to each other in bed without knowing because we are dreaming the other is smiling
The boats’ friction against the shores tickles us
Our bodies are weary as we dock and exit our vessels
As we pack the oars away
We taste the seasalt of tears and sweat from the labors of our sleep
Smiling
Walking
Along the beach at the moment when the sun and moon are both yawning in the sky
We wake
And we are holding each other
Again
