Snowfall
The snow is no different from us
From cloudy wombs
Fresh snowflakes fall like dust
Shimmering, fragile, ivory shavings cry
Conceived in summer throes
Birthed by the time love grows cold
Burdened with a duty
To renew what is always dying
Faith in humanity and beauty
We blanket a wretched earth
Shivering from loneliness
Hardened by ice and pain
Quickly, before we melt
Hold hands with our newborn friends
For our predecessors, make amends
But our hope grows frail
Like green in brumal jail
Aging quickly
The souls with which we were born
Are the first to resign
Toppling their king
Because prayers are orphaned
When hell is the only divine
We are trampled by feet
Stampeded by hooves
Run over by tires
Polluted
Corrupted
Blackened
With spit and tar
Concussed
Addicted
Jarred
Fucking
Loveless
Lonely
Scarred
Charred by cigarette ash
Blighted by festering trash
Bloodied
Sullied
Fighting
Always fighting
And thrashed
Unrecognizable
Inconsolable
Tearless
Melted
And dry
Defiled
Sloshing
Sticky
And reviled
Like flushed semen
Dead before alive
We can never win
When the world doesn’t warm beneath us
When the world reminds us we are born cold
Frostbitten fire
Bludgeoning satire
A genocide of feeling
Our destines are foretold
As youth forgets the old
After it all
The snow is no different from us
From cloudy wombs
Fresh snowflakes fall like dust
